Levitansky I love

Yuri Levitansky «I love Autumn Moscow»
I love Moscow, looking so well
in her fair autumn attire,
when in morns, they burn leaves, that fell
in the wind, and the bonfire,
Huge and slow smoking with each torch
o'er the leafless garden's gate,
looks like just an ogival church
with a facade charred of late.
Yet the old maple’s drooped so much,
standing there, hunched in sorrow…
It seems to me that leaves have such
Pride of their own to borrow.
So, what of it—so, what of it,
crumpled, and torn they're being!
They have a mute triumph indeed
Of victory foreseeing.
They will fall into the black earth,
with themselves enriching it,
many years and winters pass forth,
offspring will approve their feat,
They will wipe a tear, that bothers,
and in that youthful thrilling,
All the unjustified losses
will find the valid feeling.…
Soars and soars birds’ wedge in the sky,
beyond the cloud, the geese moan.
Burns and burns the maple so high,
its leaves will turn to ash blown.
The old garden is windswept here,
it parts with the summer's grace...
But in spring new leaves will appear,
the new ones will take their place.
