Годы приоткрытия вселенной.
Годы ухудшения погоды.
Годы переездов и вселений.
Вот какие были эти годы.

Примесь кукурузы в хлебе.
И ещё чего-то. И — гороха.
В то же время — космонавты в небе.
Странная была эпоха.

Смешанная. Ёмкая. В трамвае
Тоже сорок мест по нормировке.
А вместит, боков не разрывая,
Зло, добро, достоинства, пороки
Ста, ста десяти и больше граждан.
Мы — в трамвае. Празднуем и страждем.

Но дома — росли. И в каждом доме —
Ванная с клозетом. Все удобства.
Книг на полках тоже было вдосталь:
Том на томе.

Было много книг и много зрелищ.
Много было деятелей зрелых.
Много — перезрелых и зелёных.
Много было шуточек солёных.


Пафос — был. Инерция — имелась.
Было всё, что нужно для эпохи,
И в особенности — смелость
Не услышать охи или вздохи.

Years of the universe’s revelation.
Years when the weather worsened conditions.
Years of settlement and relocation.
Such were these years, and their admonitions.

Corn impurity was in bread,
And something else. They put — peas inside.
While — astronauts flew in sky overhead.
It was a strange era outright.

And mixed one. Capacious. On the tram
There were forty seats up to the standard.
But without any traumas, it could cram
Evil, good, virtue, vice, sitting, standing,
A hundred, hundred and ten men, and more,
On the tram, — feasting, suffering, we were.

Houses — grew. Bathroom with toilet at home —
All the amenities in each dwelling.
Bookshelves with books, were all the time swelling,
Tome upon tome.

There were many books to read, shows to stare.
And many quite mature figures were there.
And many — overripe, and immature.
And many salty jokes with a risqu; lure.

Pathos — was there. Inertia — was of late.
All the era needed, it had a lot,
And especially — the courage, so great,
And neither groans nor sighs were ever heard.
