Не ведают, что творят,
но говорят, говорят.
Не понимают, что делают,
но всё-таки бегают, бегают.

Бессмысленное толчение
в ступе — воды,
и всё это в течение
большой беды!

Быть может, век спустя
интеллигентный гот,
образованный гунн
прочтёт и скажет: пустяк!
Какой неудачный год!
Какой бессмысленный гул!

О чём болтали!
Как чувства мелки!
Уже летали
летающие тарелки!

yet they talk, and they talk too.
What they do, they do, don't understand,
but still they scurry, they scurry, don't stand.

Meaningless pounding in a mortar
— water to flow,
but all this pounding of water
midst the great woe!

Perhaps, an age from now,
once cultured Goth will read,
educated Hun too,
«A trifle!», they will allow
to say, «A bad year indeed!»
«What a hum, with sense no true!»

They talked about what!
Feelings cost so small!
Already soared
the flying saucers over all!
