Касаясь трёх великих океанов,
Она лежит, раскинув города,
Покрыта сеткою меридианов,
Непобедима, широка, горда.

Но в час, когда последняя граната
Уже занесена в твоей руке
И в краткий миг припомнить разом надо
Всё, что у нас осталось вдалеке,

Ты вспоминаешь не страну большую,
Какую ты изъездил и узнал,
Ты вспоминаешь родину — такую,
Какой её ты в детстве увидал.

Клочок земли, припавший к трём березам,
Далёкую дорогу за леском,
Речонку со скрипучим перевозом,
Песчаный берег с низким ивняком.

Вот где нам посчастливилось родиться,
Где на всю жизнь, до смерти, мы нашли
Ту горсть земли, которая годится,
Чтоб видеть в ней приметы всей земли.

Да, можно выжить в зной, в грозу, в морозы,
Да, можно голодать и холодать,
Идти на смерть... Но эти три берёзы
При жизни никому нельзя отдать.

In three greatest and boundless oceans, bathing,
She lies, spreading out the cities a lot,
With the meridians' grid always lacing,
She is invincible, proud and broad!

But at the hour when the very last grenade
Is already raised in your hand, so high,
And in a flash, you must recall, unafraid,
All that remains too far beneath the sky,

You don't recall the whole great state, that must win,
Where you traveled, which you got to know well,
You recall your homeland, dear and serene, —
Just the one where you did as a child dwell.

The patch of land nestled between three birches,
The long road which the tall forest clearly sees,
The river which the creaking ferry watches,
The sandy bank with the low willow trees.

This is where, being born happy, we acquire,
For our whole lives, until the very end,
This handful of the earth for us to admire,
Seeing in it sights of our whole land...

You can bear storms and frosts, when the sun scorches,
You can survive also hunger and plight,
You can go to death... As to these three birches, —
You can't give to anyone their dear sight.
