Уже не любят слушать про войну
прошедшую,
и как я ни взгляну
с эстрады в зал,
томятся в зале:
мол, что-нибудь бы новое сказали.

Ещё боятся слушать про войну
грядущую,
её голубизну
небесную,
с грибами убивающего цвета.
Она ещё не родила поэта.

Она не закусила удила.
Её пришествия ещё неясны сроки.
Она писателей не родила,
а ныне не рождаются пророки.

They do not want to hear now the recall
of that past war,
and as I see the hall,
I see bored more,
yawned ones as well:
"oh, if you'd tell us something new," their looks tell.

They are afraid to hear of the war too,
already grown,
of that the very blue
skies could be sown
with mushrooms of the killing dye and hue.
It hasn't given birth yet to a poet new.

It didn't bite the bit to make breakneck speed.
The timing of its precise coming is still unclear.
It hasn't begot the writers, whom to heed.
prophets aren't born these days, neither now nor here.
