Пришла весна! Разрушив лёд, река
Прибрежный лес в волнах изобразила.
Шумят струи, кипя вкруг челнока.
И ласточка, пришлец издалека,
На высоте церковного окна
Приют любви, гнездо свое сложила.
Сколь радостно, когда везде весна.
И небеса не скучным зимним хладом
Льют тихий свет. Смиренный друг полей,
Простившийся надолго с пыльным градом,
Спешит в село, чтоб прелесть вешних дней
И тишину вкусить в уединенье!
О мирное к пенатам возвращенье!
Уж, взорами путь долгий сократив,
В приюте лип, берёз и бледных ив
Он домик свой с белёными стенами
Узнал вдали! Он видит, дым седой
Сливается над кровлей с облаками,
Он слышит лай собаки вестовой;
Уж всё вблизи его открыли взоры
И скрыпнули молчавшие давно
Широких врат тяжёлые растворы!
Мой друг, о ты, который суждено
Душой, лицом пленяющей и взором,
Лавиния…

Spring's come! The river, having broken ice,
Depicts the coastal forest on its waves clear.
Streams roar, striking against the boat, they rise.
A swallow, the stranger from afar, flies,
Building the nest, haven of love, does sing,
Over the church window; how everything's dear,
And delightful, when everywhere is Spring.
The skies, with winter chill, now isn’t boring,
Pour a calm light. The meek friend of fields, comes,
Having left the dusty town, with its glory,
To the village to feel the spring days' charms,
And savor the silence in the recluse lair!
Oh, peaceful returning to the warm hearth’s glare!
And, shortening the long road with his gaze,
Through lindens, birches and pale willows maze,
He sees his house with whitewashed walls, so dear,
Looming from afar! He sees the smoke grey
Over the roof, merging with clouds, and does hear
The barking of a dog along his way;
Lo, everything reveals before his sight,
And creak the heavy doors of the broad gate,
Long silent, they now jingle open quite wide!
My friend, oh, you, who fates to captivate
With thy soul divine, gaze fair and visage bright,
Lavinia...
