We Marched to France Together - Als wir nach Frank
Oh, we were comrades three:
|An infrantrist, a Jaeger,
And me, the standard-bearer
Of our cavalry.:|
Three brothers and three souls,
We were destined for the fight:
|:By Liege, the flag was praying
"Our Father" and "Hail Mary"
All thro' the day and night:|
So as we marched together
Just two of us remain:
|:The Bueckebuerger Jaeger
And me, the standard-bearer
Behind, our comrade slain.:|
Two brothers and two souls
Greeted morning's bright, red glow.
|:In Longwy's meadows burning
The flag, fervently burning
Said "Amen", soft and low.:|
And when the flag said "Amen",
I heard a bullet fly:
|:Farewell, my dearest Jaeger,
From your friend standard-bearer,
I soon am next to die!:|
"Oh mother, dearest mother,
Fear no ore for my life:
|:So pray to God our Father
That I may no more suffer
Upon this mortal life.":|
So now, the flag said to me:
"My child, 'tis now thy day:
|:Well done, o standard-bearer,
Now we shall stand together
In Paradise today.".:|
