Булат Окуджава «Март великодушный»

У отворённых
у ворот лесных,
откуда пахнет сыростью,
где звуки
стекают по стволам,
стоит лесник,
и у него —
мои глаза и руки.
А лесу платья старые тесны.
Лесник качается
на качкой кочке
и все старается
не прозевать весны
и первенца принять
у первой почки.
Он наклоняется — помочь готов,
он вслушивается,
лесник тревожный,
как надрывается среди стволов
какой-то стебелёк
неосторожный.
Давайте же не будем обижать
сосновых бабок и еловых внучек,
пока они
друг друга учат,
как под открытым небом
март рожать!
Всё снова выстроить — нелёгкий срок,
как зиму выстоять, хоть и знакома…
И почве выстрелить
свой стебелёк,
как рамы выставить хозяйке дома…

…Лес не кончается.
И под его рукой
лесник качается,
как лист послушный…
Зачем отчаиваться,
мой дорогой?
Март намечается
великодушный!

Bulat Okudzhava «Magnanimous March»

At the open gate
to the forest lands,
from where the smell of dampness comes,
where the sounds
flow down the trunks of trees,
the forester stands,
and he is my —
eyes and hands, within the bounds.
The old dresses for the forest are too tight,
and the forester sways
on a wobbly mound,
and the forester tries
not to miss the spring bright,
and to meet the newborn
of the first bud found.
And he leans forward — ready to assist,
the anxious forester
listens to each blow,
to some careless stem, amidst trunks and mist,
that’s straining hard to make
buds appear, leaves grow.
Let's not offend pine grandmas, very much,
and their fir trees' granddaughters, tender and dear,
while they're teaching
each other, just here,
in the open air, to give
birth to March!
Isn't easy how — anew to build all,
to stand a winter, though that's known through the life...
And for the soil to shoot
its own stem small,
and to adorn the panes for the house's wife...

...The forest has no end.
And just under his hand,
the forester's swaying,
like a meek leaf though...
Why yield to such a despair,
my dearest friend?
March promises to be
magnanimous so!
