Есть речи — значенье
Темно иль ничтожно,
Но им без волненья
Внимать невозможно.

Как полны их звуки
Безумством желанья!
В них слёзы разлуки,
В них трепет свиданья.

Не встретит ответа
Средь шума мирского
Из пламя и света
Рождённое слово;

Но в храме, средь боя
И где я ни буду,
Услышав, его я
Узнаю повсюду.

Не кончив молитвы,
На звук тот отвечу,
И брошусь из битвы
Ему я навстречу.

There’re speeches with meaning —
So dark, worthless filling.
But you can't help clinging —
To them, with no thrilling.

How are their sounds hearty,
Full of wants, mad, sweety!
They have tears of parting,
They have thrill of meeting.

And won't be responded
Midst noise of world common,
The word that is rendered,
From light and flame born on.

In church, midst battle blow,
Wherever I go round,
When I hear it, I'll know,
That this is its true sound.

With prayer not ended,
I'll answer its mettle,
To meet this word candid,
I'll rush from the battle.
