Татьянин день! О первый снег и розы,
Гвоздик и ландышей душистый куст,
И первые признанья, клятвы, слёзы,

25 января 1755 года императрица Елизавета Петровна подписала указ об основании Московского университета.

Идея учреждения принадлежит выдающемуся учёному Михаилу Ломоносову, инициатором проекта выступил приближённый граф Иван Шувалов.

Выбор даты не был случайным 25 января — день памяти святой великомученицы Татьяны по православному календарю. В её честь был освящён университетский храм, и со временем сама святая стала считаться покровительницей студентов и учёных.

Постепенно день основания Московского университета стал праздником, отмечаемым всеми российскими студентами.

В 1850 году император Николай I распорядился сделать День студента общероссийским мероприятием, охватывающим все университеты Российской империи.

После 1917 года праздник был несколько забыт.
В 1995 году снова открыли храм святой Татьяны при МГУ. В 2005 году указом президента РФ Дню российского студенчества, 25 января, вернули государственный статус.

Важной частью праздника стало служение в храмах в честь Святой Татьяны, где студенты молятся о помощи в учебе, укреплении духа и обретении знаний.

На заметку: если в Татьянин день - снегопад, значит, лето будет дождливым, а небольшой мороз предвещает богатый урожай.

On January 25, 1755, Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed a decree founding Moscow University.

The idea for the institution came from the eminent scientist Mikhail Lomonosov, and the project was initiated by his close confidant, Count Ivan Shuvalov.

The choice of date was no accident: January 25 is the feast day of the Holy Great Martyr Tatiana according to the Orthodox calendar. The university church was consecrated in her honor, and over time, the saint herself became considered the patroness of students and scholars.

Gradually, the founding day of Moscow University became a holiday celebrated by all Russian students.

In 1850, Emperor Nicholas I decreed that Students' Day be made a national event, encompassing all universities in the Russian Empire.

After 1917, the holiday fell into disuse.
In 1995, the Church of St. Tatiana at Moscow State University was reopened. In 2005, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Russian Students' Day, January 25, was restored to its official status.

A key part of the holiday is the service at churches dedicated to St. Tatiana, where students pray for help in their studies, spiritual strengthening, and the acquisition of knowledge.

Note: if there is snowfall on St. Tatiana's Day, it means the summer will be rainy, and a light frost foretells a bountiful harvest.
