Скромная девушка мне улыбается,
          Сам я улыбчив и рад!
Трудное, трудное — всё забывается,
          Светлые звёзды горят!
Кто мне сказал, что во мгле заметеленной
          Глохнет покинутый луг?
Кто мне сказал, что надежды потеряны?
          Кто это выдумал, друг?
В этой деревне огни не погашены.

With so bright stars, gently adorned, is distinguished
          This night in wintry serene.
They glow, the quiet ones, the marvelous stars shine...
           Water's heard from 'neath ice crust...
Difficult, arduous were all the paths of mine,
          Where are you, my sorrows past?
A modest maiden bestows me her pleasant smile,
          I'm myself smiling and glad!
Difficult times — are forgotten after a while,
          Bright stars burn over the head!
Who told me that in gloom, when the snowstorm rages,
        The forlorn meadow does fade?
Who told me that my hopes were lost for ages?
          Who has dreamed this up, my mate?
