Бывает так: какая-то истома;
В ушах не умолкает бой часов;
Вдали раскат стихающего грома.
Неузнанных и пленных голосов
Мне чудятся и жалобы и стоны,
Сужается какой-то тайный круг,
Но в этой бездне шёпотов и звонов
Встаёт один, всё победивший звук.
Так вкруг него непоправимо тихо,
Что слышно, как в лесу растёт трава,
Как по земле идёт с котомкой лихо...
Но вот уже послышались слова
И лёгких рифм сигнальные звоночки, —
Тогда я начинаю понимать,
И просто продиктованные строчки
Ложатся в белоснежную тетрадь.

It happens, that some languor is invading;
The clock chiming in my ears does not cease;
Far off is heard a thunder blast abating.
It seems to me that I hear moans and pleas
Of the captive and unfamiliar voices,
Some secret ring shrinks, but in this, not small,
Abyss of the whispering and ringing noises,
One victorious sound rises, conquered all.
With it, there's so incredibly calm around,
That it's heard, the wood grass grows and grief plods
With its heavy knapsack across all the ground,
And now have already been heard the words
And signal bells of the easy and light rhymes, —
Only then, I begin to understand,
And with calm simplicity, the dictated lines
Lie down on a snow-white notebook at hand.
