Это было в мае, на рассвете.
Нарастал у стен рейхстага бой.
Девочку немецкую заметил
Наш солдат на пыльной мостовой.

У столба, дрожа, она стояла,
В голубых глазах застыл испуг.
И куски свистящего металла
Смерть и муки сеяли вокруг.

Тут он вспомнил, как прощаясь летом
Он свою дочурку целовал.
Может быть отец девчонки этой
Дочь его родную расстрелял.

Но тогда, в Берлине, под обстрелом
Полз боец, и телом заслоня
Девочку в коротком платье белом
Осторожно вынес из огня.

И, погладив ласковой ладонью,
Он её на землю опустил.
Говорят, что утром маршал Конев
Сталину об этом доложил.

Скольким детям возвратили детство,
Подарили радость и весну
Рядовые Армии Советской
Люди, победившие войну!

И в Берлине, в праздничную дату,
Был воздвигнут, чтоб стоять века,
Памятник Советскому солдату
С девочкой спасенной на руках.

Он стоит, как символ нашей славы,
Как маяк, светящийся во мгле.
Это он, солдат моей державы,
Охраняет мир на всей земле.

It occurred in May, when dawn was blasting.
The battle grew by the reichstag walls.
Our soldier saw on the pavement dusty
A german girl with her crying calls.

She was standing by the pillar, shaking,
There was fear, frozen in her blue eyes.
Pieces of metal, with whistle breaking,
Sowed death on earth and torture in skies...

He recalled summer farewell: in bosom
He'd wrapped his small daughter and kissed then.
Maybe this girl's father was that person,
Who shot the daughter of our Fight man.

But here, in Berlin, under the fire loud,
Fighter by himself shielded the girl
In a short white dress, carrying her out
Carefully of the fire and bombs' fall.

And, caressing her like his dear daughter,
He put the girl safely on her feet.
They say, that Marshal Konev reported,
In the morn, to Stalin of this feat.

To how many children they were coming
To bring back childhood with joy and spring,
Simple Soldiers of Soviet Army,
Our Fighters, who had won the war mean!

On a  festive date, to stand for ages,
Monument rose on the Berlin land
To the Soviet Soldier Courageous*
With the rescued girl in his strong hand!

And He stands as our glory symbol here,
Like a beacon's light in dark, one sees —
This is him, Soldier of my country dear,
Who on the whole Earth protects the peace!
