He's best known for his children's books, including The Giving Tree (1964), Where the Sidewalk Ends (1974), and A Light in the Attic (1981). His work is praised for its appeal to both children and adults. Silverstein also wrote over 800 songs, including Johnny Cash's hit "A Boy Named Sue".
