For centuries, we’ve had a single word to describe such characters: Machiavellian. But is it possible that we’ve been using that word wrong this whole time? The Prince by Niccol; Machiavelli is the most influential work on political power ever written. It consists of 26 chapters, with the book split into two, roughly equal parts. The first half covers how to gain power and the second concerns how to hold onto that power once you have gained it. Machiavelli's writing has stressed the need to be real, rather than focusing on what is ideal.

The book has influenced many leaders all over the world from Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson to Napoleon Bonaparte and Joseph Stalin. To this day it has an extensive effect on politics and ethics.

In this video, I give a brief overview of Machiavelli's most influential strategies and ideas, including examples featuring commanders such as Alexander the Great.

Why ‘Being Good’ Is Overrated: Machiavelli’s Rules for Leaders

Verse & Vision
Sep 26, 2024  Verse & Vision
What if being too good is exactly why you're losing power? Niccol; Machiavelli's had radical ideas on leadership, morality, and control. Drawing from his controversial work The Prince, we break down why Machiavelli asserted that kindness, honesty, and moral integrity can often be weaknesses in the brutal world of politics. Instead, he argued, true leaders must balance fear, manipulation, and appearances to maintain power.

Let's explore Machiavelli’s concepts of virt; (decisiveness) and fortuna (luck), the timeless debate over whether it's better to be loved or feared, and how modern leaders might be using Machiavelli's tactics—whether we realize it or not.

If you’ve ever wondered why ‘good’ people don’t always rise to the top, this video might change your perspective. Discover the real lessons behind Machiavelli’s philosophy.

Niccolo Machiavelli is one of the greatest political philosophers of all time, with his work The Prince, having a significant influence around the world.
Purchase shares in great masterpieces from artists like Pablo Picasso, Banksy, Andy Warhol, and more: https://www.masterworks.art/thelifeguide

A guidebook to rulers on how to gain and consolidate power, The Prince was considered so dangerous it was banned by the Catholic Church for more than 200 years. It has not only paved the way for tyrants, despots and dictators but has had a profound impact on business, politics, religion and the halls of power on every continent of the globe. But what did Machiavelli say? Who did he influence and how has what a man wrote 500 years ago, shaped the modern world in which we live today?

From the White House to the Kremlin from the Vatican to the Federal Reserve, this is how a man from Florence changed the course of history. This is how the writings of Niccol; di Bernardo dei Machiavelli are used to manipulate and control everyone.

The School of Life

Nice guys too often finish last; they need to read the advice of one of the wisest and most realistic thinkers in the history of philosophy: Niccolo Machiavelli. For books from The School of Life, visit our online shop:   https://goo.gl/4wNfTn

FURTHER READING

“Our assessment of politicians is torn between hope and disappointment. On the one hand, we have an idealistic idea that a politician should be an upright hero, a man or woman who can breathe new moral life into the corrupt workings of the state. However, we are also regularly catapulted into cynicism when we realise the number of backroom deals and the extent of the lying that politicians go in for. We seem torn between our idealistic hopes and our pessimistic fears about the evil underbelly of politics...”
