Yellow Scarf

She has a yellow scarf she loves. He says, let's go for a walk. She puts the scarf on to go out, some nice shoes too, gets a compliment from a random woman on the street, smiles happy.

He asks, why are you happy. Do you seriously believe in compliments. Don't you agree that compliments are just a nicety. They don't mean anything. Why fall for something shallow. Why do you care about what people say. Can't you just be happy regardless. You are insecure. That scarf, why did you put it on, and these shoes, why, it's uncomfortable to walk in these clothes. Just be yourself. You don't have to impress anyone when you're just going out for a walk.

She says, but compliments are normal, and feeling happy is normal, and I want to look beautiful in the way all people do. He says, I'm not convinced. Not everything that's normal is right. You must think for yourself, have a mind of your own.

Or she says, I like this scarf, period, and I like compliments, shut the hell up. He says, shutting people up is not the way to get them to understand. You gotta convince me.

Or she starts crying. He waits until she is done, stays composed, asks, do you agree that your getting upset was unreasonable.

Or she slams the door. He says, learn to control your anger, this is unacceptable.

Or she ignores him. Walks proudly in that scarf and those shoes. But the fun has been spoiled.

Or she leaves him. But he finds another.

Or she kills him. But she can't kill his words.

Or she kills herself. But that proves him right. She is insecure. He could never stand insecure people. He likes it when they defend their point of view.

The end.
