In the Kiev Botanical Garden

                By Frieda Shutman

I remember that wonderful garden
Where I eagerly walked with a book,
When magnolias all of a sudden
Showed me unforgettable look.

The incredibly beautiful roses
Mildly smiled with their pale petal lips…
Like a bride when her bridegroom proposes
And the Moon before its full eclipse…

And the strong lilacs smell made me drunk
In that heaven of marvelous plants.
Through the wormhole dreams I was sunk
Holding five petals' luck in my hands.
