Как написал в своей книге ”The Life of Emily Dickinson” Ричард Б. Сиуолл (Richard B. Sewall), наступил момент, когда Эмили узнала о том, что Сью выходит замуж за её брата Остина:
"And here, even the connection must remain problematic, we must keep in mind not only the divergent paths of the young women had already taken, but all that Emily, by this time, had probably learned about Sue from Austin’s disastrous marriage and his increasing defection from "Sue and her crowd". (Page 212)
В стихотворении Эмили описала, что она почувствовала, узнав эту новость. Достаточно отметить её полное сарказма выражение "For entertainment...".
