В лучах великого деда,
В тени могучего сына.
И сам вершил ты победы,
И прожил жизнь как мужчина.
Забыв про троны и царства,
Навек из дома изгнанник,
Ради любви, не коварства,
Сквозь пыль летит этот странник.
Пред ним — фиванские стены,
И рок пророчит потери,
Но ради милой Алкмены
Въезжает в медные двери.
Правитель ставит условье:
«Очисти землю от зверя».
И пахнет воздух уж кровью,
И люди в чудо не верят.
Там хитрая бродит лисица,
В ловушке бьется природа.
Никак ее не лишиться,
Замкнулся круг у исхода.
Но ты ломаешь проклятье,
И зверь повержен в бою.
Народ раскрывает объятья
И славит победу твою.
Шагнула навстречу Алкмена,
Весь город славит героя.
Позорной дани отмена,
И Фивы вкусили покоя.
Два выхода, два входа,
Желанная свобода —
Ее принес нам он,
Герой Амфитрион.
И преклонил Олимп
Свой золоченый нимб.

Amphitryon
By the rays of your granddad surrounded,
In the shadow of your mighty son,
Your own path of victories you founded,
As a man, all your battles were won.
Forgetting all kingdoms and powers,
An exile who roams through the night,
For love, not for greed or for towers,
Through dust flies this wanderer bright.
The walls of great Thebes rise before him,
And fate whispers losses and pain,
But love for Alcmene comes o'er him,
Through the bronze gates he enters again.
The ruler proclaims his decree:
"Go cleanse all this land of the beast."
The air smells of blood, wild and free,
And faith in a wonder has ceased.
A fox, sly and cunning, is prowling,
In a trap of the nature confined.
No hunter can stop all its howling,
The circle is closed, intertwined.
But you break the curse and the chain,
The beast falls down dead in the field.
The crowds embrace you again,
And praise how the monster was killed.
Alcmene steps out to the light,
The city sings praise to the brave.
The shameful tax vanishes quite,
And peace to great Thebes you gave.
Two ways out, two ways in,
Freedom comes, let it begin.
He brought it to everyone,
The hero Amphitryon.
And even Olympus bowed down
Its golden, shimmering crown.
