Очень тихо и прекрасно вдохновение течёт,
Если к Лизе приплывает лебедь Лана Вегерхофф,
И хоть я не её рыцарь, даже не английский пэр -
Стану маленькой синицей очевидных словосфер!
Я вложу ей строки в ушки - что надежней, чем в руке,
ибо затуманит душу, как берёзки при реке,
и её душе огромной, обнимающей весь мир,
станет радостно-привольно взять мой билингвальный стих.

Inspiration starts to flow in a quiet, lovely way,
when the swan Wegerhoff Lana glides towards Eliza's page;
and though I am neither her knight, nor even an English peer,
I shall be a tiny titmouse in the words'sphere, clear and near!
I will whisper lines in her ears - a more safe place than one’s hand —
I will cast a gentle, misty spell, like birch trees by the strand;
and for her vast, all-embracing soul — which holds the whole world —
To take my bilingual poem - will be a free boundless joy.

Лебедь и синица
Если Лиза песней нежной будит утренние дали,
Лебедь Лана расправляет два крыла над синей далью.
И синица ей навстречу звонко песенку заводит,
И стихи на двух наречьях над рекою хороводят.
Пусть летят навстречу строчки, словно птицы над водою,
Лебедь пусть с синицей дружит этой летнею порою.
Ведь поэзии подвластны и моря, и расстоянья,
Если души понимают без словесного признанья.

The Swan and the Titmouse
When Eliza sings so sweetly, waking skies of golden morning,
Lana spreads her snowy pinions, all the distant blue adorning.
And a little titmouse answers with a song of pure affection,
While their verses join together in a dance of sweet connection.
Let the lines fly like the swallows, over rivers softly gleaming,
Let the swan and titmouse wander through the gardens of their dreaming.
For no distance can divide them, neither borders nor the weather,
When two hearts have found a language that can bring their songs together.

где анапест поёт лебедь, а синичка - шесть хорей.
это равенство и дружба успокаивает нервы
и выравнивает души в синтез правильных речей.

where a swan sings in anapest, a titmouse - six trochee feet.
Such equality and friendship soothe the nerves, bring souls to balance,
And will level out our souls to synthesis of right speech.
