Your gaze is like a quiet languor

Based  on the poem
Your gaze is like a quiet languor
«Твой взгляд — как тихая истома»
I have made a translation.

Your gaze is like a quiet languor,
The rhythm of my breath grows faint.
Excitement drives me from the doorway,
In your elements, no bounds are painted—
Yet shadows of the past remain.

A stern look, a silent question:
How to be? How to tame this tide?
You’re like a storm that swept the mast away,
Destroying all we held so dear inside.

But then the moment came, the trembling ceased,
And all the worry left, with no return.

Peace came at last, and you will see the truth:
No need to fight the wind and flame,
When home is here to meet your name,
To welcome you when storms are done.

I’ve met that gaze, that same languor’s trace,
And thought stepped into quiet light.
What once seemed thunder in the tempest’s race
Now holds a silent answer, out of sight.

It’s not the storm that’s been defeated here,
But pride—and now a different strength appears:
Not in the crushing of the highest peaks,
But in protecting what above us speaks—
The arch that rises over soul and mind,
When all the world around has left behind.
