Оfficer s Duty
«Офицерский долг»
I have made this translation.
The stars above wear no epaulettes, you see,
But on the ground, in uniform, stand those who’ve been set free
By fate to be protectors of the ones we hold so dear,
To stand for those we’ve cherished through the years.
And you are ready to give your life for this, it’s true —
A true hero, you know that behind you
Are all of us, and home that’s waiting too.
You’re a pro: each move is sharp and clean,
Your thoughts align in order, precise and keen.
You often make the choices, bold and grand,
Where honour and conscience are held in hand.
You give the orders to your units, clear and strong,
And wait to hear: “Mission complete, right along.”
You know that everything’s calculated, down to the part,
Yet still, a quiet worry lingers in your heart.
The call comes through — a hoarse voice you hear:
“Mission accomplished, we’re moving near.”
And reaching goals without a break, without a rest,
The fighters take the line, surpassing every test.
Victory lies within their hands, no doubt —
Such people matter much, there’s no way ’round.
They’re humble. For the courage shown in the fight,
Medals shine bright on their chests, in the light.
So we want to say “thank you” for your bravery,
For valour in the hard days, steadily.
We wish you health, and happiness, and love so true,
And a swift return, dear officer, back home to you.
