Love will save us

The forest bronzes in October’s light,
The trees have turned to shades of gold,
And here we are, alone tonight,
In love as when we were twenty years old.

It’s almost midnight, sleep won’t come,
We crave a spark, a brand new fire,
It feels like dreams, yet we’re not numb,
It’s real, it’s love, it’s deep desire!

We sit and sip some gin, just one,
A little warmth to soothe the soul,
Two ships in life’s wild ocean run,
Not calm, but fierce! Turn off the bowl!

I’ll love you through the night, my dear,
I’ll tell the truth—I want you so!
I’ll touch you, hold you, draw you near,
And let the candle of passion glow.

The scent of incense, rare and sweet,
Is what we need to set the mood,
I’ve waited long for hands to meet,
To feel your touch, so soft and good.

Such simple strokes, so light and kind,
That bring a warmth we’ve always known,
The moments we will keep in mind,
While autumn watches from its throne.

Let autumn weep in jealous rain,
Against the glass, a tired gray,
We’ve caught our luck, we’ve broken chain,
And drink our love in every way!

We scoop up joy like morning dew,
In pleasure lost, just you and I,
We need no others, we are true,
Beneath the day or midnight sky.

Our nest is weary from the sound,
The neighbors wake, they cannot sleep,
But we start over, round and round,
While bedsprings groan and secrets keep.

Let winter howl and winds blow cold,
We do not care what storms may brew,
Your hand is searching, brave and bold,
For what I’ve hidden just for you.

We laugh until we’re out of breath,
One-twenty-five, our combined age,
But love will save us all from death,
And write a new, eternal page!
