A Heart Left at the Port
The dying ember burns my fingertips, the north wind turns gray.
You stand on the stern wrapped tight in your heavy black coat,
Between us lies silence, the abyss where dead memories float.
Behind me the tavern is shattering thick whiskey glass,
I'm left on the pier alone as the dark hours pass.
Припев
(Hey! Opa!)
A heart left behind at the port crushed by strangers' heavy tread!
I gave you my life and my pride and the words left unsaid!
(Aman! The dark waves roar!)
Sail away, take my soul to the east where the horizon turns black,
Leave me drinking this bitter salt brine, never looking back!
The boarding ramp slams like a hammer driven straight through my chest,
The seagulls are wailing: don't turn to the fading southwest.
I throw my last coin in the oily, impenetrable swell,
To drown every whisper and memory straight into hell.
Let midnight tides rock the trawlers against the stone wall,
Припев
(Opa! Take the hit!)
A heart left behind at the port, drowning deep in the cold!
You turned to a stranger, and grief turned my young spirit old!
(Aman! Tear that string!)
Cast your false promises into the mist and the foam,
A man keeps his sorrow inside where no pity can roam!
(Hush... let the clarinet cry...)
Watch the stern vanish into the sea...
The black water takes you, and darkness is waiting for me.
It is over. You hear it? Just stone and debris.
Припев
(Let it burn! To the final drop!)
A heart left behind at the port! Let the breakers tear it apart!
I paid with my blood for the venom you poured in my heart!
(Hey! Opa!)
Leave me forever! My fire has turned into stone!
Only this heavy nine-eight rhythm keeps me alive and alone!
(Hey... aman...)
At the port... void and stone.
