Autumn Palette
No brightness burning, barely any gleam
The summer's stunning shades have shed their steam
Just ashen air and cold remain
Melancholy midnight turns to stone
Frozen feelings fill the fearsome void
Warmed by wishes, wonderfully destroyed
To hear the world that wanders on alone
I'll steal the sky's sapphire sight
And stuff it stubborn in my sleeves
Defying damp and dreary thieves
Racing to their rendezvous tonight
Raindrops reign and rule the restless ball
Mad and mighty, week by weary week
Fallen foliage forms a filthy creek
Waiting white to cover, cleanse it all
Careless currents spin and swirl around
To heaven's heavy, hammering refrain
Autumn creeps between the conscious plain
Wearing winter's woven, waiting gown
Strutting strong on stilted, striking heels
Fourth season's fury fights the fading year
No calendar can cage what we hold dear
No starlight stops what stubborn spirit feels
Sick November shivers, burning bright
Scares the world with wicked, warming fire
Autumn swallows bitter, brooding mire
Chasing chill through chaos of the night
Time to take nature's needed rest
Breathing blizzard's blessing, bitter cold
But morning makes the muddy pools so bold
Breaking barriers with their beating chest
I'll race to reach December's door
With frost and flakes so fair and free
Not noticing the slush beneath my feet
Defying dates and what they're for
Ohhhhh... ahhhhhh... mmmmm...
