The Wasp and the Honey

The Wasp and the Honey
A wasp in summer flew to have a treat,
She saw a table filled with bread and meat,
A bowl of soup, some cheese and greens so fresh,
She wished to taste it all, to try the dish.
And then a bowl of honey caught her eye,
It called her near, she couldn’t just pass by.
She dipped into the sweet and sticky gold,
But suddenly her leg was caught in hold.
Another leg got stuck inside the sweet,
The wasp was trapped and faced a grim defeat.
She drowned in honey, losing all her hope,
When someone with a spoon helped her to cope.
He scooped the honey up and set her free,
But she just buzzed with anger and with glee.
With all her fading strength she tried to sting
The saving hand, a fierce and spiteful thing!
The human had to strike and end her life.
The moral is: there is no free lunch in this strife.
Don't steal another’s lunch, it's not a prize,
And when you are released, just fly and rise!
Be grateful for the help you did command,»
And never bite your savior's helping hand!
