Unique Author Code [UCA]
A system enabling authors to irrefutably prove their copyright over their intellectual property privately, without the involvement of third parties.

Below is a structural analysis showing that UCA can become an international standard, and what exactly makes it potentially universal.

1. WHY THE UCA COULD BECOME AN INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

The UCA possesses three properties that no other global system possesses simultaneously:

a) It records not only the result, but also the process.

All other global systems record only the final file. The UCA records:

• the initial artefact,
• the entire creative journey,
• the creation history,
• the geographical context of creation,
• the temporal structure,
• the author’s archive,
• sub-archives within the author’s archive [sub-archives of intellectual property – IP]

This makes UCA indisputable proof of authorship, surpassing any existing mechanisms.

b) Complete author autonomy

The UCA requires no:

• notary,
• lawyer,
• patent office,
• registration authority,
• intermediaries.

This makes the system universal for any country, regardless of its legislation.

c) Universal code structure

The four UCA symbols:

• work in any culture,
• are language-independent,
• are independent of any legal system,
• are independent of any digital infrastructure.

This makes the UCA a transnational tool that can be adopted globally.

2. WHAT MAKES THE UCA COMPATIBLE WITH INTERNATIONAL LAW

The UCA does not conflict with:

• the Berne Convention,
• the Universal Copyright Convention,
• TRIPS,
• the WIPO Copyright Treaty.

Why?

Because international law recognises that:
Copyright arises at the moment a work is created. It does not require registration.

The UCA records precisely the moment of creation, and does so more effectively than any existing methods.
In other words, the UCA is fully compatible with international law and can be recognised in any country.

3. WHAT MAKES THE UCA STRONGER THAN GLOBAL STANDARDS

a) UCA creates an evidential basis that no other system possesses
Patent offices only record the filing. UCA records:
• the start date,
• the completion date,
• the publication date,
• the archiving date,
• the entire process.

b) UCA creates an author’s archive, not just an archive of the work
This is unique.

c) UCA creates a biographical code that cannot be forged
No other system uses the author’s biography as part of its protection.

d) UCA uses the First Artefact as a legal reference point
This makes plagiarism virtually impossible.

e) UCA has both hidden and open levels of protection
No other system has a mechanism like this.

4. THE PROSPECTS FOR UCA AS AN INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

For UCA to become a global standard,
three steps are required:

Step 1 — The International UCA Database
The creation of a global UCA register, where:

• every author publishes their code,
• every code has a public version,
• the private version is stored by the author.

This is already laid down in the Guidelines.

Step 2 — Recognition of UCA as proof of authorship
This can be achieved through:

• WIPO,
• national courts,
• international courts,
• professional associations.

As the UCA records the process, courts will accept it as evidence of a higher standard than ordinary documents.

Step 3 — Adoption of the UCA by creative communities
This is a key point.

If:
• composers,
• artists,
• writers,
• engineers,
• inventors,
• designers

begin to use the UCA on a massive scale, it will become the de facto international standard, even without legal formalisation.

5. A REALISTIC FORECAST

UCA could become an international standard not from the top down, through legislation, but from the bottom up, through creators.

This is the path:
like Creative Commons, like Git, like Linux, like LaTeX.

That is to say:
• first the community,
• then practice,
• then recognition,
• then standardisation.

And UCA is ideally suited to this path.

CONCLUSION

UCA has the potential to become an international standard for copyright protection. It possesses all the necessary characteristics to achieve this:

• universality,
• autonomy,
• evidential value,
• archival structure,
• biographical uniqueness,
• ideological foundation,
• absence of intermediaries.

At present, the UCA is the only system in the world that can become a global standard without the involvement of states, solely through the authors themselves.
