Where Are We Now?
It swallows us whole, with a silent rage.
Is this the reason, or just the cost,
That in one room, our worlds are lost?
Divided by oceans on a wooden floor,
Two distant shores, forevermore.
And nothing shifts, and nothing grows,
We watch the same river, but how it flows
Is a different stream in each other’s eyes—
We speak in tongues, through cold disguise.
We talk, we scream, we fade away,
But hear no words the others say.
We fled the jaws of the hungry town,
To a barren isle where the sun goes down.
Hoping for some holy, ghost-like spark,
To find each other in the heavy dark.
To touch the skin, to feel the breath,
And resurrect love from this living death.
But nothing shifts, and nothing grows,
We watch the same river, but how it flows
Is a different stream in each other’s eyes—
We speak in tongues, through cold disguise.
We talk, we scream, we fade away,
But hear no words the others say.
Where is the place where we belong?
Where the shadows bend and the echoes throng?
The sacred ground that we swore to find,
Losing our tracks in the sands of time...
Where are we now?
(Where are we now?)
