A Faithful Dog
A drunken man lay on the track,
He wished that life would not come back.
He waited for a heavy freight,
To drink away his final fate.
His bottle rolled onto the rail.
His faithful dog arrived by tail.
"Get up, my master, let us go!"
It seemed his bark was saying so.
But helpless in his drunken daze,
The man just watched the headlights blaze.
The dog still pulled, he pushed with might,
As train wheels thundered through the night.
The man rolled down the ditch's side,
As roaring iron passed and died.
"Forgive me, friend!" the master cried.
Upon the tracks, the dog had died.
