Where summer never learns to stay

Our summer departs like the last warm breeze,
Taking the amber of sunset away.
We stand at the edge where the living must cease,
And what we can't face begins today.

And yet - one more moment, one last taste of heat,
One more dawn burning down over rooftops to gray.
Let it go in silence, let it softly retreat
Summer was never the season that learned how to stay.
