Bulldog Broadway

There was a little bulldog,
With tiny baby feet,
A squishy nose, all potato,
And cheeks too round and sweet.
She looked a little grumpy,
As if she ruled the block,
But one small sideways glance from her —
And down went common sense.

Oh, bulldog, little bulldog,
With your funny wiggly walk,
You hit me like a charm wave,
You shut down all my thoughts.
I try to act like normal,
I try to look away —
But then I see that little face,
And I am gone. Okay.

She doesn’t like the rain much,
She doesn’t chase a ball,
She stares at you as if to say,
“That toy offends us all.”
She snorts a tiny warning,
She flops and claims the throne,
And somehow in three seconds flat
My heart is not my own.

Oh, bulldog, little bulldog,
With your funny wiggly walk,
You hit me like a charm wave,
You shut down all my thoughts.
I try to stay majestic,
Responsible, adult —
But then you do that bulldog thing,
And all resistance folds.
