Almost a fairy tale

She looked like a princess, a vision of grace,
While I was a swamp-thing, a mess of a face.

Her brows were all sculpted, her lips painted red,
My nose was a carrot—or so it was spread.

Her legs were like pillars, so slender and fine,
While mine were just hairy, crooked, and swine.

Her voice was a melody, chirping and sweet,
Mine was a gutter-mouth, lacking a beat.

In short, this celestial, high-flying dame,
Enchanted a fool who was playing her game.

But under the glitter, the polish, the sheen,
I missed the cold shark that was lurking unseen.

A Snow Queen in velvet, a serpent in lace,
With the mask of an Eve on a heartless, cold space.

Her soul was a dagger, a sharp, frozen shard,
Wrapped in silk ribbons, playing the card.

I penned her my sonnets, my heart on a page,
While she was just counting the size of my wage.

My spirit was dancing, a bird on the wing,
Believing that love was a beautiful thing.

Alas, the charade hit a wall in the night,
When the tinsel dissolved in the harsh morning light.

The clock struck the hour, the spell lost its power,
The carriage turned pumpkin—and I turned quite sour.
