A Soldier s Duty Warhammer
Shells burst around upon this shattered shore.
There's smoke and tar, the air is thick with dust,
Each dawn just drags us deeper into rust.
The enemy creeps silent through the wire,
He too desires what we all require.
My friend beside me chokes within his mire,
While carrion crows wheel higher in the pyre.
Who is the foe? The Eldar or the horde?
I don't recall, I've lost my faith, my sword.
The Leman Russ boasts barrels, dark and cold,
I don't care who I burn — that tale is old.
Well, looks like this is where we meet our end,
Fuel tanks erupt — a firestorm unleashed.
Take my scorched soul, oh Satan, be my friend,
You'll need a martyr when they claim the beast.
The battle rages now beyond our hand,
Praise to the Emperor who guides the land.
We held the line for one more hour, it's true,
Now let the Guard step into fury anew.
