When Shaded Lanes Begin to Sigh

Перевод стихотворения Anatoli Sobol "Когда в тени листвы..."

When leafy pathways sigh beneath the trees,
And pale moonlight disturbs the sleeping birds,
You, spun from flowers, dew, and dawn’s melodies,
Will wake me with your lashes’ whispered words.

Your eyes hold every sunset, every dawn;
Your hair breathes wormwood, bittersweet and wild.
Your arms are warm with summer lingering on,
While distant thunder murmurs, low and mild.

You’re not mine: so dear and chuzhaya too;
No fault of yours or mine we’re not to blame.
Within your burning arms I drown in you,
Made drunk by wine and by your tender flame.

Your tender lips I hardly can forget;
Within the stifling cage of clinging night,
My love, I see those dawns before me yet
The dawns when you were with me in the light.

When leafy pathways sigh beneath the trees,
And pale moonlight disturbs the sleeping birds,
Before they greet the dawn with melodies,
Wake me with one soft brush without a word.

And once again, alone, we greet the dawn;
Our burning lips taste faintly now of wine.
And in your arms, still warm with tenderness,
I drown once more, made drunken by your touch.
