The Moon
And that is thing I do regret
That makes me think of day we met
The moon was beautiful I bet
Your face was close and yet still dark,
You asked me: “Do you see that spark?”
I answered: “Yes”, but I did not,
I didn’t even have a thought
That you would ask me such a thing,
Do you regret what we might’ve been?
The years just flew, it’s spring again
I haven’t seen the moon since then.
But on one spring night, late and deep,
When all the world had gone to sleep,
I saw at last that lunar gleam
Too bright, too real, too like a dream.
I turned to share the silver sight
But found no shadow, found no light
Of you beside me in the air
Just empty space and cold despair.
The spark was there, the moon was true
But not for me, not now, not you.
The years stole more than time could mend
They stole the one who'd comprehend.
So now I see what once was blind
A moonlit ghost, a left-behind.
You'll never know I finally knew
And worse, my love, I’ve lost you too.
