The Poet s Prayer
I'll live in this sturdy house,
To gather loaves of bread, like stars
And for breakfast, rain in the stems
Tea, with the breath of a loved one
A gentle whisper won't become a fright.
Why does everything hurt so
When the clouds float in a circle?
You put on airs and fashion,
Send a poem to the West.
And from the East already the passion
Of exalting glory and brightness.
Sky, sky, don't be cruel
Avert all misfortune from home
Sky, sky, don't be cruel.
I return to my origins.
A branch taps on the window all night.
A dog shakes the rain from its fur.
I write my name on old stones.
And a prayer flies from my lips to the sky.
I close all the shutters in the house -
There is no room for strangers here!
My kind word will fly
Into the unknown for someone.
Sky, sky, don't be cruel,
Avert all misfortune from home.
Sky, sky, don't be cruel,
I return to my origins.
Sky, sky, don't be cruel,
Let the house stay whole tonight.
