The Beasts

The night erased the road behind us,
Rain took every name we knew.
Still the ground responds beneath us —
One more step, and then break through.

We don’t carry maps or answers,
We don’t wait for fear to end.
Every heartbeat joins another;
Every stranger walks as friend.

When the dark says, “Turn around,”
We answer with our feet.
When the silence closes in,
We give the silence beat.

We are the beasts still moving,
We are the pulse beneath the stone.
We are not disappearing —
We are finding our way home.

Through the night, through the rain,
Through the fear that knows our names,
We don’t run away from living —
We run to keep the fire awake.

Who keeps the fire?
We keep the fire.
Who carries dawn?
We carry on.

A little bread between the travellers,
A little warmth from hand to hand.
What the world refused to give us,
We have learned to understand.

Tell me what the years have taken;

Pain grows smaller when it’s spoken,
Night grows wider when we name it.

When the dark says, “You are lost,”
The earth replies, “You stand.”
