Captain Nikola Gastello,
As Air Force searchers discovered in 1944
for Soviet aircraft shot down by the Germans,
in front of eyewitnesses,
residents of the village of Matski,
he sent his burning bomber
with its crew
into the Matski swamps,
and he himself parachuted out,
and after landing
was taken prisoner and taken away
by German machine gunners
who had arrived on a motorcycle.
