Let the Monsters Stay

[Verse 1]
When I was a child, my mother used to say,
The monsters will come and take you away
I'd check the closet, look beneath my bed,
While branches scraped the window by my head.
I'd hide beneath the blankets, still and small,
Believing monsters waited through it all.

[Chorus]
Sometimes I still look underneath the bed,
Though I know there's nothing there to dread.
I fall asleep alone beneath the stars,
And leave those childhood shadows where they are.
...
The only monsters now are those in bed.
Not underneath—but lying there instead.

[Verse 2]
My blanket slips and falls onto the floor;
My cat curls up and asks for nothing more.
I open up the wardrobe, nice and slow,
My favorite dresses hang there, row by row.
...
Let every monster stay where they belong—
With my mother, where they've been all along.
...
Where they've been... all along.

Good enough
Loving monster is the worst monster...
It's hard to part with 💘

Thank you so much! You’ve captured the exact essence of the story. Sometimes the hardest part is letting go of the monsters...
