The poet and the muse

you saw my flying
saw the meteor
i never meant to burn your phone

i lit your cigarretes
to match your metaphors
you turned my tears into awards

bonds of hymen were all untied
the boy was truly born for fame

i hope she's beautiful and anserine
i took my lyre and said

that i was watching lights go out
as you were dancing through the maenads
you said my eyes could write a fairy tale or two
i had to believe it's true

now i say you see return of my madness
no one can save me but myself
what was all of it for?
fade away you had to dance with the nymphs and
made my dress of the leaves and
something cold
you put your hands up like the groom the thief the lord
to break your heartbreakers cliche your shields your swords
had to find the holes to find the only door
our names engraved in smoke and ruse,
it's fate for both of you
the poet and the muse

the queen became uncrowned after long week
convenient loss of dignity
the king has raised her face above his head
it was the cursed fragility

but every time your heart would bleed
I'd stitch it up with words you'd need
id drink the river just to prove you walked on waves
oh the fool was always me

now i say you see return of my madness
no one can save me but myself
you left me all alone
fade away you had to dance with the nymphs and
made my dress of the leaves and
something old
you put your hands up like the groom the thief the lord
to break your heartbreakers cliche your shields your swords
had to find the holes to find the only door
our names engraved in smoke and ruse,
it's fate for both of you
the poet and the muse

you were the only one who could
mistake the sweetest dream for truth
unspoken tales keeps haunting you
like ivy growing through the rooms
you crowned your ghosts instead of youth
and called your echoes living proof
while I kept praying to the fool
who never knew what love could do

your fingers in the empty bag
i carry torch and catch the ash
the muse walks out, the poet’s left
the hazard's only who stayed

so i say you see return of my madness
no one can save me but myself
what was all of it for?
fade away you had to dance with the nymphs and
made my dress of the leaves and
something cold
you put your hands up like the king the judge  the saint
to break your heartbreakers cliche your ball your chain
had to find the holes to find the only door
our names engraved in smoke and ruse,
it's fate for both of you
the poet and the muse
