the story of yearning

At first, you were a stranger in the crowd,
Nothing felt special, no alarms rang loud.
I saw your face and simply walked on by,
No spark of magic caught my quiet eye.

The second time was completely by chance,
An accidental, unexpected glance.
A sudden warmth rushed up into my cheeks,
With hidden feelings I kept safe for weeks.

The third time that I saw you standing there,
I knew for sure how much I’d grown to care.
I wanted you, I knew you were the one,
But I was sad, my grief had just begun.

I spoke my truth and told you how I felt,
But your soft answer made my wishes melt.
You were surprised, and gently turned away,
Leaving me with so many words left to say.

I did not want a momentary gaze,
Or just attention for a few short days.
It was much more than that, so deep and true—
I hope some day you see in me what I saw in you.
