The Static Hum

The wires in my skull are frayed
A silver thread begins to fade
The logic circuits start to stall
I hear the quiet, static call

The colors bleed, the straight lines bend
I’m losing track of where they end
A single spark, a quiet snap
The fuse is lit—there’s no turning back

And the dissonance is all I know
A broken clock, a falling snow
Each synapse fires and then lets go
A slow decay, a fading glow
The neurons crumble, soft and low
And I am the last to know

I used to hold a perfect tune
Now I just howl at the moon
The memories pool upon the floor
I don't remember what they're for

The face I knew is out of frame
I whisper, but I can't recall the name
The engine sputters, loses steam
I'm just a ghost inside a dream

And the dissonance is all I know
A broken clock, a falling snow
Each synapse fires and then lets go
A slow decay, a fading glow
The neurons crumble, soft and low
And I am the last to know

It’s not a scream, it’s not a cry
It's just the sound of "why?" and "why?"
A gentle hum of all I've lost
A final line, a final cost

Dissonance...
It’s all I know...
The static hum...
A falling snow...
