из Губермана - о евреях

Я долго не решался опубликовать мои переводы гариков И.М.Губермана на эту деликатную тему. А вдруг кому-то не понравится? Но вот в конце концов я подумал: сам-то он их публикует! И не боится кому-то не понравиться. Так что ответственность на авторе, а я всего лишь переводчик. Какой с меня спрос?

Сомненья мне душу изранили
и печень до почек проели;
как славно жилось бы в Израиле,
когда б не жара и евреи.
          My soul is tortured by doubts
          that Israel is proper shelter.
          It would be a suitable house
          but for the Jews and the swelter.

Здесь еврей и ты и я,
мы – единая семья:
от шаббата до шаббата
брат наё**вает брата.
          Both without and within
          we are Jews, and are akin:
          trying hard to cheat and cozen
          everyone from dad to cousin.

Здесь разум пейсами оброс,
и так они густы,
что мысли светят из волос,
как жопа сквозь кусты.
          Side locks that overgrow the brains
          are so thick and dense
          that thoughts peep out through the curls
          like buttocks through the fence.

Евреи, которые планов полны,
становятся много богаче,
умело торгуя то светом луны,
то запахом лёгкой удачи.
          Smart Jews who are full of hard-headed designs
          grow rich not by way of extortion,
          they artfully trade in moonlight and sunshine
          and odor of fabulous fortune.

В евреях действительно много того,
что в нас осуждается дружно:
евреям не нужно почти ничего,
а всё остальное им нужно.
          In Jews there is much deprecated by all
          – the cause of dispraise they engender:
          Jews don't need much, next to nothing at all,
          but surely need the remainder.

Евреям доверяют не вполне
и в космос не пускают, слава Богу;
евреи, оказавшись на Луне,
устроят там базар и синагогу.
          Jews are not fully trusted in affairs.
          Thank God, they aren't allowed into space;
          for if they reach the Moon and settle there,
          they'll build a synagogue and run a shopping place.

Устав от евреев, сажусь покурить
и думаю грустно и мрачно,
что Бог, поспешив свою книгу дарить,
народ подобрал неудачно.
          Fagged out by Jews, I retreat to my nook
          surprised that some fail to observe it:
          the Lord was too hasty in giving his Book
          to people who hardly deserve it.

В себе мы загадку веками несём,
генетики семя шальное,
евреи способны буквально на всё,
а также – на всё остальное.
          For ages adventurous spirit
          incites us and wafts like a feather:
          the Jews don't scruple to go the limit,
          and after that go still further.

Умельцы выходов и входов,
настырны, въедливы и прытки,
евреи есть у всех народов,
а у еврейского – в избытке
          Smart cookies, well- and little-known,
          skilled in evasion and elusion …
          all folks have Jews of their own,
          the Jewish nation – in profusion.

В узоре ткущихся событий
не всё предвидеть нам дано:
в руках евреев столько нитей,
что нити спутались давно.
          When trying to control each little thing
          effects can't be foreseen and handled:
          Jews hold and pull so many strings
          that strings by now got entangled.

За мудрость, растворенную в народе,
за пластику житейских поворотов
евреи платят матери - природе
обилием кромешных идиотов.
          For wisdom permeating through the nation
          and for sagacity beyond all limits
          the Jews have always paid to mother nature
          with multitudes of idiots and dimwits.

Еврей умён. Еврей совсем не прост.
Еврей всё видит, слышит, подмечает.
И что удобно – что на свой вопрос
он сам себе мгновенно отвечает.
          A Jew is smart. He acts with discretion.
          A Jew is nimble like a rope-dancer.
          And when confronted with his own question
          the Jew at once provides his own answer.

Да, искромётностью ума
по праву славен мой народ,
но и по мерзости дерьма
мы всем дадим очко вперёд.
          My folk are famed for their wit,
          this is a fact and no hoax,
          but by the horridness of shit
          we'll surpass all other folks.

В евреях легко разобраться,
отринув пустые названия,
поскольку евреи не нация,
а форма существования.
          To get of the Jews a true notion
          is easy by their subsistence,
          'cause Jews represent not a nation,
          but a special form of existence.

Когда-то стаи дикарей,
гуманность не нажив,
ещё не знали, кто еврей,
и ели всех чужих.
          Cave dwellers practiced no ruse
          to get flesh for a meal;
          they'd no notion of Jews
          and ate all whom could kill.

Случайно ли во множестве столетий
при зареве бесчисленных костров
еврей – участник всех на белом свете
чужих национальных катастроф?
          Is it haphazard or disposed by the Maker
          who keeps for ages life-and-death sweepstakes:
          a Jew is an unvarying partaker
          of other nations' social earthquakes.

Нельзя не заметить, что в ходе истории,
ведущей народы вразброд,
евреи свое государство – построили,
а русское – наоборот.
          You can't fail to note: some countries stagnate
          while others are strong and improvin';
          the Jews have set up their national state
          but Russia's they nearly ruined.

Среди еретиков и бунтарей –
в науке, философии, искусстве –
повсюду непременно част еврей,
упрямо прозябавший в безрассудстве.
          Amid sectarians and rebels
          exciting violent contention
          there often is a Jew, who meddles
          knee-deep in stubborn contravention.

Среди земных поводырей,
туда зовущих, где прекрасно,
довольно часто был еврей,
и был, по-моему, напрасно.
          Among ringleaders, having views
          on building paradise on earth,
          quite often figured sundry Jews;
          I think they couldn't have done worse.

Мне до сих пор загадочно и дивно,
что, чуждое Платонам и Конфуциям,
еврейское сознание наивно –
отсюда наша тяга к революциям.
          My verdict isn't prejudiced or heartless
          that in the course of all historic evolutions
          the Jewish cast of mind continued artless –
          hence their constant bent for revolutions.

В душе еврея вьётся мрак
покорности судьбе,
в которой всем он – лютый враг,
и в том числе – себе.
          Misgivings lurk in a Jew's mind
          and in his soul dwell
          for he's a foe to all mankind
          and to himself as well.

Еврей опасен за пределом
занятий, силы отнимающих.
Когда еврей не занят делом,
он занят счастьем окружающих.
          A Jew is dangerous, unless
          he keeps away from idleness.
          Unless a Jew is in distress,
          he fights for others' happiness.

Еврею нужна не простая квартира.
Еврею нужна для житья непорочного
квартира, в которой два разных сортира:
один для мясного, другой для молочного.
          A Jew needs for living a special dwelling
          with separate toilets, for him to retreat
          to keep the Commandment which is compelling:
          one toilet for milk and the other for meat.

С Талмудом понаслышке я знаком
и выяснил из устного источника:
еврейке после ночи с мясником
нельзя ложиться утром под молочника.
          One can't resist lubricious female charms,
          but Talmud sets austere, stringent duties:
          a Jewess, having slept in butcher's arms,
          has to postpone milkman's assiduities.

Еврей – не худшее создание
меж божьих творческих забот:
он и загадка мироздания,
и миф его, и анекдот.
          A Jew is not the worst formation
          in God's quest for divine keynote:
          he is a riddle of creation,
          enigma, myth and anecdote.

Среди болотных пузырей,
надутых газами гниения,
всегда находится еврей –
венец болотного творения.
          Among marsh bubbles filled with stench
          inflated by putrification
          there'll always be some Jewish wretch –
          the pinnacle of swamp creation.

Везде, где не зная смущения,
историю шьют и кр;ят,
евреи – козлы отпущения,
которых к тому же и д;ят.
          Where history is turned like old coats
          without abashment or guilt
          the Jews are fall guys and scapegoats
          who are both maltreated and milked.

Под оком тысяч упырей,
дух чуя ножевой,
беспечно нежится еврей,
счастливый, что живой.
          Watched by a thousand vampires
          and sensing glance of vicious knives
          Jews are indulging their desires
          rejoicing in their lives.

Евреи не витают в эмпиреях,
наш ум по преимуществу – земной,
а мир земной нуждается в евреях,
но жаждет их отправить в мир иной.
          Jews don't soar in clouds or in heavens,
          our minds are earthly, even though whirled,
          the earthly world does need the Jewish presence,
          but strives to send them to the other world.

Люблю листки календарей,
где знаменитых жизней даты:
то здесь, то там живал еврей,
случайно выживший когда-то.
          All calendars that I review
          contain some dates which avow:
          sometimes somewhere there lived a Jew
          who managed to survive somehow.

Еврей, который не хлопочет
и не бурлит волной шальной, –
он или мысленно клокочет,
или хронический больной.
          A Jew who doesn't fuss and trouble
          and has no purpose to fulfill –
          he either has his brain abubble
          or he is chronically ill.

В заоблачные веря эмпиреи
подобно легкомысленным поэтам,
никто так не умеет, как евреи,
себе испортить век на свете этом.
          Like poets, light-minded and day-dreaming,
          incited by the customary leaven,
          no one can bugger up their earthly living
          like Jews who seek the empyrean heaven.

Еврейский дух слезой просолен,
душа хронически болит,
еврей, который всем доволен, –
покойник или инвалид.
          The Jewish spirit is tormented,
          from pain it'll never be released,
          a Jew who is well contented
          is either crippled or deceased.

Если к Богу допустят еврея,
что он скажет, вошедши с приветом?
– Да, я жил в интересное время
но совсем не просил я об этом.
          Should a Jew have a word with the Maker,
          what would he say (unlike many)?
          – It was fun before I went to God's acre,
          but I hadn't in fact asked for any.

Не тем еврей стал плох, что ест свой хлеб,
а тем, что проживая в своём доме,
настолько стал бездушен и свиреп,
что стал сопротивляться при погроме.
          The Jews' misconduct is an outrage,
          their attitude is contrary and clashing.
          Not that they rage, run riot or rampage,
          but started setting face against kike bashing.

Везде, где нет запоров у дверей,
и каждый для любого – брат и друг,
еврей готов забыть, что он еврей,
однако это помнят все вокруг.
          Where people hate deceit and ruse
          like friends and brothers tried-and-true,
          Jews may forget that they are Jews,
          but folks around never do.

Всегда еврей легко везде заметен,
еврея слышно сразу от порога,
евреев очень мало на планете,
но каждого еврея очень много.
          A Jew is always notedly conspicuous,
          a Jew is spotted straight on his arrival,
          Jews are not many, even if ubiquitous,
          but in dimension every Jew's unrivaled.

Шепну я даже в миг, когда на грудь
уложат мне кладбищенские плиты:
женитьба на еврейке – лучший путь
к удаче, за рубеж, в антисемиты.
          Even with tombstones lying on my breast
          I'll whisper with my lips, clay-cold and closed tight:
          among all wives a Jewess is the best
          to thrive, to emigrate, to turn anti-Semite.

Евреи знали унижение
под игом тьмы поработителей,
но потерпевши поражение,
переживали победителей.
          The Jews were sometimes maltreated,
          abused, subjected to disfavours,
          but even conquered and defeated,
          they always outlived enslavers.

Ни мечтой себя не греем,
ни надеждами благими:
вряд ли мир простит евреям
то, что вечно делал с ними.
          Vain are dreams one may believe in,
          entertained from days of yore,
          that once Jews will be forgiven
          for the miseries they bore.

Вечно и нисколько не старея,
всюду и в любое время года
длится, где сойдутся два еврея,
спор о судьбах русского народа.
          Regularly, year in and year out,
          everywhere, without consummation,
          when two Jews meet – a controversy breaks out
          on the fate of Russia's title nation.

Россия ждёт, мечту лелея
о дивной новости одной:
что, наконец, нашли еврея,
который был всему виной.
          All Russia waits the year round
          for welcome news like a windfall:
          that finally a Jew's been found
          who can be truly blamed for all.

Катаясь на российской карусели,
наевшись русской мудрости плодов,
евреи столь изрядно обрусели,
что всюду видят происки жидов.
          Having accepted Russia's lifestyle with passion
          and understanding Russian wisdom's meaning,
          Jews have acquired so much from Russians
          that they suspect all other Jews of scheming.

От ловкости еврейской не спастись:
прожив на русской почве срок большой,
они даже смогли обзавестись
загадочной славянскою душой.
          Jews skillfully cut corners and conspire;
          for centuries they lived on Russian soil,
          survived and even managed to acquire
          the known enigmatic Russian soul.

Отца родного не жалея,
когда дошло до словопрения,
в любом вопросе два еврея
имеют три несхожих мнения.
          Engaged in animated chatter,
          as if tormented by delusions,
          two Jews discussing any matter
          come to three different conclusions.

Раскрылась правда в ходе дней,
туман легенд развеяв:
евреям жить всего трудней
среди других евреев.
          The flow of days revealed the truth
          dispelling legends' smoke screen:
          the hardest living is for Jews
          among the folks of their kin.

А везде, где льются песни
наших лет былых расейских,
там незримо вьются пейсы
композиторов еврейских.
          With songs the life appeared brighter
          and when we sing them (I can swear!)
          side-locks of Jewish music writers
          are looming vaguely in the air.

Одна загадка в нас таится,
душевной тьмой вокруг облита,
в ней зыбко стелется граница
еврея и антисемита.
          There is a riddle in my kin
          which lurks in us like moral blight:
          the fuzzy borderline between
          a Jew and an anti-Semite.

Кто умер, кто замкнулся, кто уехал;
брожу один по лесу без деревьев.
И мне не отвечает даже эхо –
наверно, тоже было из евреев.
          Some of us died, some cloistered, some departed;
          alone I walk in woods with no trees.
          There's no echo. I roam downhearted.
          The echo too, maybe, was ex nostris.

Везде одинаков Господень посев,
и врут нам о разнице наций.
Все люди – евреи, и просто не все
нашли пока смелость признаться.
          Creating all mortals, God made them alike,
          the contrary is superstition.
          All people are Jews, but not all have the pluck
          to honestly make the admission.

На месте, где еврею всё знакомо
и можно местным промыслом заняться,
еврей располагается как дома,
прося хозяев тоже не стесняться.
          Wherever Jews make casual stopovers   
          and think there's no further need to roam,
          they readily install themselves all over
          and ask the hosts to also feel at home

Мы всюду на чужбине, и когда
какая ни случится непогода,
удвоена еврейская беда
бедою приютившего народа.
          We are foreigners wherever we reside
          and when misfortune comes to all and sundry
          the miseries of Jews are multiplied
          by woes of the people in host country.
