Just Another Day

One ordinary morning
I packed a little backpack.

I put inside a bottle of water,
a sandwich,
and a few cookies.

I had decided to go looking for God.

Nobody knew where He lived.

But I was sure that if He was real,
we would meet somehow.

Later that day
I met an old man
sitting alone on a park bench.

He looked tired.

So I shared my lunch.

We talked about everything
and nothing at all.

And somehow
the day felt brighter.

In this busy world of rushing people,
Everyone following their own road,
We keep searching far beyond the horizon
For treasures we already hold.

Not in castles,
Not beyond the mountains,
Not across some distant sea,
Sometimes wonder waits beside us
In places we forget to see.

God arrives so very quietly,
Like the morning light at dawn.
In a cup of tea,
A helping hand,
Or a smile when hope feels gone.

In a child's heart,
In an old friend's kindness,
In the sunlight through the trees.
We may never see Him coming,
Yet He walks with us in peace.

One was searching,
One had stopped believing,
Tired from years that slipped away.
But an ordinary afternoon
Became a miracle that day.

And if the world grows just a little warmer,
If someone leaves with hope restored,
Perhaps love still keeps arranging meetings
We were never planning for.

God arrives so very quietly,
Never asking to be known.
In a cup of tea,
A piece of bread,
Or a kindness freely shown.

In a child's heart,
In an old man's wisdom,
In the gold of evening skies.
We may fail to see the wonder,
But the wonder never hides.

That evening
I came home smiling.

"Dad...
I think I found what I was looking for."
