Valentin Yemelin. The true story of Mary Poppins

(Excerpts from the report verbatim of 29.02.1933

Maria Makova, nanny, special agent,
Red Army Headquarters, department 4.

…I was dropped in the West End. How did I manage?
The wind has changed, I could drift no more.
I was lucky. Nobody saw me landing.
Only one admiral, retired and nuts,
noticed in the rain, which poured without ending,
my parachute. But thought he was drunk enough.
And a couple of kids were anxiously watching
through a spyglass in the Cherry Street Lane.
But I have applied to them some brainwashing
with a chemical agent from the OGPU secret chain:
one spoonful of stuff and some minimal practice –
no count of sheep, pretty safe indeed.
An extract of some Mexican hallucinogenic cactus –
bright and exuberant dreams guaranteed.
There were also baby twins, no match for my prowess,
a couple of drops – and count to ten.

…Checked my radio. Double checked the safe houses.
Penetrated into the class enemy’s den.
A very cheap nanny from the Soviet Russia
is a perfect fit for the low middle class.
The will of parents was easy to crush and
the infiltration succeeded; I got my pass.

The rest was simple. The accelerator of protons
was served by a technician, who valued life.
He was recruited in one of the honky tonks.
Cooperated. Blueprints were supplied.

…Acquiring access to the transmutation of atoms
will boost the gold reserve of our motherland,
and the state, free from the exploitation of masses,
will become a beacon of happiness in the end.
H.G. Wells, the writer, said that Russia’s Shadow
will soon be cleared – an optimistic plot.

…I was duly called off and evacuated on schedule.
And yes, comrade Travers helped us a lot.
