Lilac Moon

The night spread wide its dark umbrella
Where once your moonlight used to be.
A rose-lit dawn came softly searching
For the place you longed to see.

Upon that lilac moon you wandered,
Wanting only solitude.
Forgetting me, you drifted sleeping
By the window, lost from view.

And when the day grew tired,
Just as every day will do,
You drifted far away again,
Beyond my reach, beyond my view.

When that dream appeared before you,
Not for me, but meant for you,
You let it take you gently,
And forgot what once was true.

You'll forget me on that lilac moon,
Perhaps only for a moment or two.
Leaving me a fragile thread,
Just a drop of regret instead.

The sun shines warmer there,
Brighter than I've ever known.
No snow to fall,
No rain to weep,
No shadows left to roam.

Upon that lilac moon
You'll stop thinking about me,
If only for a moment,
Trading all your heart's anxiety

For that starlit plain,
Where everything is,
And nothing seems to be.

And when the day grew tired,
Just as every day will do,
You drifted far away again,
Beyond my reach, beyond my view.

You'll forget me on that lilac moon,
Perhaps only for a moment or two.
Leaving me a fragile thread,
Just a drop of regret instead.

You'll forget me on that lilac moon,
Perhaps only for a moment or two.
Leaving me a fragile thread,
Just a drop of regret instead.

On that lilac moon...
For a moment or two...

Leaving me a fragile thread,
Just a drop of regret instead.
