The Antenna Man
He’s fused to the parapet, rebar in concrete.
His spine—a spire of cold, jagged steel.
He doesn’t look into windows, or dreams, or the gutter.
He hunts the ether where dust and static collide.
His fingers are needles, shivering in the void,
nerves tensioned against the frost-bitten zenith.
He’s spiked at the peak, in the structure’s blind spot,
where every seam of the building hums.
What does he catch where the sky is just a grid?
Not music. Not news. Not the gale.
He catches the cells, the hive, the sleepers—
the sound of teeth grinding down through the night.
Every ounce of pain—from cellar to attic—
pulses through pipes, a current surging his spine.
He’s the hub of the system, the glitch in the architecture:
Growth coordinates. Compression instructions.
He isn’t human anymore. Just a receiver,
locked in a signal loop between monolithic blocks.
He’d love to bend, to breathe, to break the spine—
but he’s grounded. A fixture. The bolt that listens.
