Chatsky s monologue, A. S. Griboedov act 2, scene

The world is starting to get stupid.
You say while sighing. And you can
Behold the past and present epoch,
The story's fresh, but can't believe that men
Were famous just by flattering and fawing
Not like in war, in peace were hitting foreheads
They knocked it on the floor without regret.
Someone in need: arrogance, lying in the dust,
Someone who's higher: flattery with lust.
It was an age of fear and straight submission,
Under the mask, loyality to king.
I'm not about your uncle, not my mission
Not to disturb the honour of the ashes of his.
But who was taken by the need to please,
It's necessary now to sacrifice his head with ease?
