DDT to DDT AND The Liturgy of the Residue Full ver

DDT: A Diptych
I. Ballad from the Cracks
Do you remember a guy who lived
In the cracks of the panel wall?
He had a dream, he had a skin,
He wanted to walk, he wanted to stand—not crawl.
And he reached for the sky from a kitchen floor,
With a human heart and a million legs.
His gods of the pipes, they don’t want more—
They just feed on the crumbs, they just need the dregs.

Ashes to ashes, DDT to DDT,
He’s a man in the making, or so he thinks he’ll be.
The priest is whispering, the trap is set,
He’s a soul in the dust, he’s a living threat.
Cover the eyes, so the light can't see.
The living are buried in a shroud of white,
In the panel house dark, in the neon night.

I’ve been watching the trial of a bug so small,
Trying to pray in the dust and the gray.
He wanted to know what it means to be human,
But the poison’s the price that he had to pay.
Oh, mama, look at him now,
He’s losing his whiskers, he’s starting to weep.
The choir is singing, they’re taking a vow
To bury him under, to bury his dream deep.

Ashes to ashes, DDT to DDT,
The transformation is a tragedy.
Cover the eyes, so the world stays blind.
The white powder falls like winter snow
On the secrets that humans will never know.
Ashes to ashes, DDT to DDT,
He tried to be "me," but he’s only "we."
Just a crunch underfoot, just a ghost in the vent,
A life misspent, a spirit unbent.

II. The Roach Liturgy
We are gathered here today
To commit unto the earth the body of our brother,
A man once faithful and steadfast in our fellowship.
Though he yet draweth breath,
Unto us he is already numbered with the departed.
He lieth here before us in a casket of plain pine,
Whereas he should have been encoffined in the strength of oak.
For he hath trespassed against our covenant,
And dared to taste of the forbidden fruit.
Therefore, let us pronounce upon him this solemn sentence...

...Lie still, I command thee; let there be silence!

And now, we bid farewell to him that was our brother.
We commit his body to the ground, deep and secure,
Under six layers of sacred DDT.
Sleep thou in quietude,
And let thy vain and insolent thoughts perish with thee.

Let each that passeth by approach this sepulchre,
And take heed, that he may never forget:
That which is born of the roach,
Can never be quickened into the likeness of man.

The sting of your powder was death,
And the weight of our slab is your grave.

Be thou consumed.
