33 Cows

I'm talking about the song "33 Cows"
From a famous Soviet film
About a very smart and beautiful woman.

Mary Poppins is the name of her.
She has beautiful blonde hair.
She worked for an English family
To look after their two small children.

Her job is Holy, obviously -
We can call her "the nanny", simply.
This film is full of happy songs -
Hmmm, "Happy Song" - what's that?

Ah, do you remember?
It was in 1983 when I was eight -
It was the beginning of the Italo Disco era.
And this is one of my favourite songs,
Which is the part of that music style.

It was the best-known hit
Of the Italian band called "Baby's Gang".
This song was so well-known
That Frank Farian couldn't ignore it.

Do you know this wonderful man?
I'll make your day, darling -
He's one of the greatest producers
In the global music industry.

As far as I know,
"Frank Farian" isn't his real name,
Because he was born in Germany.
It's an American-style pseudonym
He adopted many years ago.

At that time, Germany wasn't a unified state -
It was divided into two parts.
The larger part, West Germany,
Was under the influence
Of the United States.

And the smaller territory
of this beautiful country,
called East Germany,
Was under the control of the USSR.

Why is that?
Because of the Second World War.
After this terrible trouble,
Germany was occupied
by four countries.

These were the USSR, the USA,
Great Britain, and France.
They discussed
The fate of the Germanies,
But they never came to a consensus.

So, one part of this Land
Traveled to capitalist countries.
And another went
To a socialist country:
the USSR.

Thus, the territory of
West Germany
Was about three times
Larger than the territory of
East Germany.

But in the turbulent 1990s,
When every country
Was falling apart,
Germany, on the other hand,
Was coming together.

Do you Remember,
What do these four letters mean?
I'm talking about the USSR.
I'll give you the answer,
My dear daughters –
The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

I was born in this country
Fifty years ago, exactly.
It summed up it's existence
When I was at the age of sixteen.

What were we talking about?
Ah, we were talking about the German star Frank Farian.
What else can I tell you about buddy Frank?
He bought that great song about happiness.

And it was sung by his best project,
Consisting of four Afro-American people -
Two men and two women, dancers and singers.
This band was very popular in the seventies.

They sang "Happy Song" in 1984
On one of their last albums...
With another big hit,
Called "Kalimba De Luna" -
Very nice song.

Frank Farian didn't create it either.
It was written by Tony Esposito.
He was Italian, like "Baby's Gang".
But it was in the reggae style.

These were two magnificent songs
By the famous German band "Boney M",
The brainchild of
The great Frank Farian.

Hmmm, but what were we talking about
Before brilliant Frank Farian?
Ah, we were talking about
Nathalie Andreychenko!

This is the name of great Soviet actress,
Who played Mary Poppins,
In the famous Soviet film,
So-called "Goodbye, Mary Poppins".

And why did we start such a strange speech?
Ah, because of this little job,
Who has number thirty-three –
The number of cows in that film.

Not exactly in that film,
But in the song they performed in it.
Maxim Dunaevsky was the composer –
Mary Poppins' husband, just in case.

He was one of the greatest Soviet composers.
He wrote many wonderful songs.
The most famous of them are from another film,
Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas.

This is a favourite book
Of my dear mama.
I'm talking about the brave D'Artagnan -
A French hero and fearless officer -
Like my dear papa,
Who was a Russian lieutenant colonel.

He was also very brave and fearless,
So I understand you,
My beautiful mother Mary.
Hmm, Mary again -
What an unexpected coincidence.
